It is often hard to talk about science with folks..Often today, the rules of public/media discourse are: (from Charles Pierce):
1) Any theory is valid if it moves a product
2) Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough
3) Fact is what enough people believe and truth is how fervently they believe it.
