The American Association for the Advancement of Science (publisher of the journal Science ) recently had their annual conference. It was attended by about 10,000 folks from across all science disiplines. I had a chance to listen to a person involved in climate science about the event.
Climate change adaptation was a big topic. One of the reasons is how the ground data is tending faster than the last set of IPCC models predicted.
Apparently, many scientists are saying between themselves that given rate and impact, it might be a waste of time and resources to try to "save" species / ecosystems. Some say emphasis will have to be on adaptation strategies for humans to use. Others say some effort should still be made, etc.
One interesting immediately practical comment was about what you plant for forestry, gardening etc. This would be planting something for the long term. In U.S. for example, plant now what is at its northern-most range where you are.
