What is happening is bad enough but the Australian government has been, and may still be, pushing forward with plans for a new coal export port from which ships would cross part of the reef, so in addition to the GHGs, land damage from mining and ocean acidification + heating, there would potentially be direct physical damage to a part of the reef... I'd say unbelievable but this is politics.
