I assume that if you live in the Western Hemisphere you of course have already read Charles Mann's book 1491. Mann's sequel, 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created is out. The "new" refers to the whole planet of course. It examines in broad context the ecological impact of Columbus and those who came after him.
